About Us

How We started:

Helping Horses and helping those who rescue and care for horses is very important to us here at R9 Custom Horse.

In 2004:

We took in a very thin, very sick mare. Dollie had C.O.P.D. She needed surgery to open her airway. She was a very sweet 9 yr old Appaloosa mare. The former owners didn't want to pay the surgery, and wanted to recoup the $82 vet bill. Dollie was heading to the kill pen at the local auction. I didn't talk to my Husband, i just told the owner i would pay this bill if i could have the horse.

I went home and told my Husband about Dollie. He was happy that Dollie was going to be apart of our family. He did have one question for me and I know what it was. He asked how was I going to pay for her surgery. I had no idea at that time.

I paid Dollies vet bill, and picked her up the next day. Dollie was placed on meds and her surgery date was set!

During that time, an acquaintance of a friend had also just adopted a horse and was looking for some matching custom tack. Our friend mentioned that we could make it for her. We used the money from those first orders to pay for Dollie's surgery. The woman was pleased with the pads and blankets and word started to spread. While she was with us, Dollie did have her surgery and was able to gain weight. Almost a year later, she passed away because of her illness. We dearly miss her! Since then we have continued to grow and can now offer a wide selection of patterns and styles for your four-legged family members.
